| TYLER BLACK- Spoiler:
Ring name(s) Tyler Black Gixx Taj the Destroyer Billed height 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m) Billed weight 200 lb (91 kg) Born May 28, 1986 (1986-05-28) (age 24) Buffalo, Iowa Resides Buffalo, Iowa Billed from Buffalo, Iowa Davenport, Iowa Trained by Danny Daniels Debut 2005 VIDAColby Lopez[1][2] (born May 28, 1986), better known by his ring name Tyler Black, is an American professional wrestler who competes in North American independent promotions and has competed in Scott County Wrestling, AAW: Professional Wrestling Redefined, Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South, the National Wrestling Alliance, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Wrestling Society X and Ring of Honor, where he is the reigning ROH World Champion. In several promotions, Black was the tag team partner of Jimmy Jacobs, competing under the names Doin' It For Her (WSX)[3], Kiss 2 Kill (PWG) and was once a member of The Age of the Fall along with Jacobs, Necro Butcher, Lacey, Allison Wonderland, Joey Matthews, Zach Gowen, Delirious, Brodie Lee, and Rain.CarreraEarly career Making his debut in the mid 2000s, Black started out with Scott County Wrestling (further referred to in article as SCW), the federation in which he would hone his skills under the name Gixx. He also began wrestling for Ian Rotten's IWA Mid South and later entered the Ted Petty Invitational tournament, defeating Sal Thomaselli before being eliminated by Matt Sydal in the quarter-finals in Hammond, Indiana on September 23, 2005. He would also win the SCW heavyweight title and would then spraypaint the belt black christening "The Black Era" in SCW and would also hold the IWA Mid-South Light Heavyweight title as well.
He soon joined NWA Midwest winning the promotion's tag team titles with Marek Brave. The two would successfully defend the titles against Ryan Boz and Danny Daniels, Brett Wayne and Hype Gotti, and Jayson Reign and Marco Cordova several times in early 2006. He also faced Eric Priest and A.J. Styles in singles matches.
Later that year, he briefly appeared in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and teamed with Jeff Luxon losing to The Latin American Xchange (Homicide and Hernandez) on Impact in October 2006.
On May 25, while in a match with FIP Tag Team Champions The Briscoes in Melbourne, Florida, Brave would suffer a severe back injury that would sideline him for several weeks. Although agreeing to a later rematch, During this time Black pursued a singles career competing in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla facing Joey Ryan on June 10 and former mentor Danny Daniels at the supercard “Point of No Return ‘07” on June 16. Ring of HonorFor months leading into the ROH return to Chicago there were cryptic messages on a blog of a stable entering ROH that was code named "Project 161". Jimmy Jacobs was one of the names mentioned who could be behind this along with Adam Pearce and a few other Chicago based ROH wrestlers. At one point, posts related to Project 161 flooded the ROH Message Board, but ROH Booker Gabe Sapolsky has claimed these were actually fans doing.
After making a successful return to ROH, Jimmy Jacobs, the returning Necro Butcher and the debuting Tyler Black violently attacked the Briscoe Brothers right after their ladder match against Kevin Steen and El Generico at Man Up. This meant Jimmy Jacobs was indeed behind Project 161. The day after their debut, their website revealed that all the blog entries had been written by Tyler Black. Jay Briscoe was hung upside from the rigging that was used to hoist the titles from the ladder match. This was a disgusting scene as the blood of Jay Briscoe dripped onto Jimmy Jacobs as he announced the beginning of the Age of the Fall. Later on in the event Tyler Black and Jack Evans faced off in a dark match until both Jimmy Jacobs and Necro Butcher got involved. The Irish Airborne entered the ring to save Jack Evans which lead to a six-man tag between Project 161 and the make shift six-man team of Jack Evans and the Irish Airborne. The match battled to a no-contest as Necro Butcher punched out the referee during the middle of the match.
The angle was so controversial that ROH decided to remove the footage from the pay-per-view that was being taped at the event. However, the footage was also heavily requested by ROH fans, so it was shown on the ROH Videowire for the week of September 15.
Teaming with Jimmy Jacobs and Necro Butcher against The Vulture Squad (Jack Evans and Ruckus) in several handicap matches during early October, he team with The Age of the Fall to against Jack Evans, Ruckus and Jigsaw in a 6-man tag team match the following month at Glory by Honor VI Night 1 on November 1, 2007. The following night, Black would defeat Alex "Sugarfoot" Payne however he was attacked by The Briscoes following the match. He would appear with The Age of the Fall in their match against The Briscoes during the main event.
At Final Battle 2007, Black and Jacobs defeated the Briscoes to win the ROH World Tag Team Championship. At Breakout, Black put in a strong showing against Bryan Danielson.[14] They would lose the titles one month later on January 26 to Davey Richards and Rocky Romero of the No Remorse Corps when competing in an Ultimate Endurance match also involving Brent Albright and BJ Whitmer of The Hangmen 3, and Austin Aries and Bryan Danielson.[14]
At Take No Prisoners, ROH sixth pay-per-view, Black earned the opportunity to challenge Nigel McGuinness for the ROH World Heavyweight Championship in a losing effort. However the match with Nigel McGuinness is regarded as the match that made Tyler Black a fan favourite; regardless of being a heel at the time. At Southern Navigation, Black's rivalry with Bryan Danielson continued as Black suffered another loss.
At Up For Grabs, Black and Jacobs won an eight-team tournament to win the ROH World Tag Team Championship for a second time. The two would then lose the titles at Driven to the team of Kevin Steen and El Generico.
Black had a second chance at the ROH World Title at Death Before Dishonor 6 in NYC, when he faced Nigel, Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli in a 3 way. He came even closer than last time to winning the ROH World Title. But Nigel retained.
At Full Impact Pro's event on December 20, Black defeated Go Shiozaki to win the FIP World Heavyweight Championship.
At Final Battle 2008, Black lost a Number One Contenders match for the ROH World Heavyweight Championship to Austin Aries. Jimmy Jacobs distracted Black as he was trying to use his Phoenix Splash. Jacobs would turn on Black after the match. Austin Aries came to aid Black, but then subsequently hit him with a chair. Because of the ending of the Final Battle match, At Full Circle, Black was given a non-title match against the ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness on January 16 in Manassas, VA. In the match Black defeated McGuinness with a superkick. The next night at Injustice II in Edison, New Jersey, Black was set to face Jimmy Jacobs, but when Austin Aries, the #1 contender, refused to face McGuinness that night, Black was put into the main event this time with the title on the line. The match however ended in a time limit draw just as Black was going for the pin following a superkick. On June 26 at Violent Tendencies, Black defeated Jimmy Jacobs in a steel cage match to end their feud. On October 10, 2009, Black defeated Kenny King in a first round match and then Claudio Castagnoli, Colt Cabana, Delirious, Chris Hero and Roderick Strong in the finals to win the 2009 Survival of the Fittest tournament. On December 19, 2009, at Final Battle 2009, ROH's first live pay-per-view, Black wrestled the ROH World Champion Austin Aries to a 60 minute time limit draw. On February 13, 2010 Black defeated Aries in the main event of ROH's Eighth Anniversary Show to win the ROH World Heavyweight Title. On April 3, 2010 Black retained the title in a three-way elimination match against Austin Aries and Rodrick Strong at the Big Bang! online PPV
